Brittney Poolaw is a woman from Oklahoma that was sentenced to four years in prison after suffering a miscarriage when she was 17 weeks pregnant.
She was found guilty on first-degree wrongdoings for the miscarriage she experienced last year after she admitted to the medical staff that she consumed illegal substances.

According to the toxicology report, the fetus tested positive, but the OBGYN who testified for the state said that the substances haven’t directly caused the loss of the fetus.

Non-profit organization National Advocates for Pregnant Women (NAPW) stated that the Oklahoma’s laws do not apply to miscarriages, which are pregnancy losses that occur before 20 weeks – a point in pregnancy before the fetus is viable.
