Have you ever heard about the “Devil lips”? Well, they have become the latest, and maybe the most bizarre beauty trend to surface social media this year.
It has been reported that the sensation originated in Russia, and it’s now trending on Instagram in the U.K. as well. Experts and doctors, though, are urging Brits to avoid the new look, as it has been labeled dangerous and “unnatural”.
The trend sees women using lip fillers or makeup to create “devil-inspired” wavy pouts, and the semi-permanent procedure is believed to involve filler into the outer lip to create the wave.
According to Dr. Krystana, a Cosmetic Dentist and Facial Aesthetician based in London, one cannot change the anatomical shape of the lips like this. She says that you can sharpen and contour by enhancing the vermillion border, but the “devil lips” are definitely unnatural.
She says that if the filler is injected inappropriately, it could end up in vessel causing blockages, and it could even lead to necrosis of the tissue.
For the beauty fans that want to go down the less risky route, though, the “devil lips” are mimicked using makeup, or simply by Photoshoping them.
The trend, though, has been met with mixed reactions on social media, and comments ranged from “I love it” to “It’s absolutely hideous”. What do you think about this new trend?
