Keira Knightley said that she won’t be doing love scenes anymore as long as they’re directed by men because she would feel uncomfortable.
The 35-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor also ruled out taking part in ‘horrible’ love scenes in movies but admitted that there are times when she realizes that these scenes are ‘really good’ for the movie.
Knightley said on the Chanel Connects podcast that ‘it’s partly vanity and also the male gaze’.
“If I was making a story that was about that journey of motherhood and body [acceptance] I feel like, I’m sorry, but that would have to be with a female filmmaker. I don’t have an absolute ban, but I kind of do with men.” – she said.
The mom of two wants to put those days behind her, and added that she feels very uncomfortable now trying to portray the male gaze.
She noted that she realizes that such scenes might sometimes be really good for the movie and the directors basically just need somebody to look hot, but she noted that they can use somebody else because she’s too vain and her body has had two children now so she’d rather not stand in front of a group of men without any clothes on.
Knightley said back in March 2020 that she would no longer participate. Even though she admitted that she had always felt completely comfortable doing it when she was younger, she doesn’t want to do it anymore.
