Job Interview Canceled After Woman Asked Two “Wrong” Questions

Even though we probably don’t mention it when a prospective employer asks “Why do you want to work here?”, the most obvious reason is pretty clear: money. In fact, it’s the reason most of us work in the first place: to be able to afford food, rent, etc.

So, the whole playing coy and speaking to culture and “a good fit” are, most of the time, bs, and the employer shouldn’t find it shocking for the candidate to be interested in what the job pays.

Well, a company called Skip the Dishes, a food delivery service catering to the Midwestern U.S. and a few Canadian cities, was so taken aback by this oh-so shocking request that they immediately canceled the interview following an applicant’s inquiry about wages and benefits.

Many Twitter users pointed out the fallacy of criticizing the timing of the request, and they suggested that it’s much better to discuss the pay early, rather than save the biggest point until the end, possibly wasting everyone’s time if the parties do not come to an agreement.

The candidate even shared that this wasn’t her first interview with the company, but a follow-up after the first one went well.

As it is the protocol in 2019, the company realized what they had done once the issue got popularity on the internet and offered up an apology and a follow-up.
