George Clooney is most certainly one of the best actors of all time, and he has proven himself as the best mate in the world after it was revealed that he once handled $14 million to 14 of his pals – $1 million each.
The 59-year-old actor said in an interview with GQ recently that he once handed one million dollars in suitcases to 14 of his closest friends. It was back in 2013, and he added that he was driving the suitcases across Los Angeles in a disguised van with ‘florist’ written across the side.
The Ocean’s Eleven star wanted to give something back to his friends for all the support they’ve given him over the years. This is the first time George Clooney has confirmed the story, although it was floating around on social media for years.
“I thought, what I do have are these guys who’ve all, over a period of 35 years, helped me in one way or another. I’ve slept on their couches when I was broke.
They loaned me money when I was broke. They helped me when I needed help over the years. And I’ve helped them over the years. We’re all good friends.
And I thought, you know, without them I don’t have any of this.”
Clooney added that they’re all really close, and he thought that if he ‘gets hit by a bus’, they’re all in the will anyway. So, why wait to get hit by a bus, when he can give them the money now?
He bought 14 Tumi bags, he packed in a million bucks in cash in each of them, and he invited his friends the following day and handed them the money.
He held up a map and pointed to all the places he got to go in the world and all the things he has seen because of his friends. The best way to repay them? Give them a million bucks, each.
