Dr. Jill Biden’s Response To Sexist Article Suggesting She Should Drop Her Title Is Everything

Writer and a professor emeritus at Northwestern University Joseph Epstein recently wrote in an article for Wall Street Journal that Dr. Jill Biden shouldn’t be using her title because she’s not a ‘real doctor’ – meaning that she’s not a medical doctor.

He titled the article ‘Is There a Doctor in the White House? Not if You Need an M.D.’, and this is the unfortunate word-choice he made: “Madame First Lady—Mrs. Biden—Jill—kiddo: a bit of advice…”

He then ‘explained’ how she shouldn’t be using the Dr. title because it’s not the same as having an M.D.

His sexist remarks sparked an outrage on the internet, and women with doctoral degrees of all kinds changed their social media handles to include their doctor’s title! Hundreds of people explained why the article was problematic, and even Merriam-Webster chimed in and confirmed that the word ‘doctor’ actually means a ‘teacher’.

However, even though the public reacted loudly, Dr. Jill Biden was quiet about it for a couple of days. She reacted to the b-s article by writing a one-sentence tweet that was the best possible response she could have given!

Dr. Jill Biden’s response is so simple, yet so powerful! She didn’t address or even mention Joseph Epstein, as she didn’t want to get caught up in the mess of debates of mediocre white men and their view on sexism. She didn’t take the bait, and instead reacted accordingly!

The fact that she didn’t give Epstein any attention further proves her point, and this is exactly how everyone should be handling the opinions of such people. They’re just not worth our energy.

And yet, she addressed the problem in the best way possible. She nailed the issue and acknowledged that women have their accomplishments diminished. She realizes it’s something that needs to change, and she wrote that she and her husband are looking forward to building a future that’s better than the past.
