Summer is on its way, and all the juicy, sweet berries come with it. If you happen to love strawberries, there’s a popular video on TikTok that we suggest you watch.
BuzzFeed writer Krista Torres recently posted a video on TikTok that raised many eyebrows, and chances are that it will disgust the guts out of you. Following the video, many others emerged of people trying to properly clean strawberries using the method, and this advice will come in handy for some of us.

How do you wash your strawberries? If you’re anything like me, you probably rinse them with sweet tap water and that’s it, right? Well, you might be in for a surprise after you see the video.

Disclaimer: No, we do not want to ruin strawberries for you, but it turns out that we’ve all been probably eating tiny critters without knowing about them.

So, the advice is to plonk your berries into water mixed with salt in order to get rid of all the dirt and tiny bugs and worms that might be inside. Some say that leaving the strawberries in the salty water for 5 minutes is enough, while others suggest that you might leave them in for a bit longer, or about half an hour. It comes without saying that you should rinse them with sweet water afterward so you wouldn’t be eating ‘salt berries’.

Many shocked TikTokers responded that they won’t be eating berries ever again, while others suggested that what is once seen, cannot be unseen.

The majority, though, suggested that most foods have bugs in them, especially ones that come from the ground (obviously). However, strawberries are delicious, and they’re full of necessary vitamins, so we don’t see any reason you should stop enjoying them!

Additionally, some people suggest that you can put the strawberries into cold salted water, while others strongly advise to go for warm water for the berry-cleansing, as salt will dissolve faster inside it.

Several users went on to share that you should also be putting a tiny amount of vinegar into the salted water to minimize the number of chemicals you take in.
